There is a saying in her field "Not all psychopaths are serial killers, but all serial killers are psychopaths." Although psychopaths as serial killers are rare, there are various degrees of psychopathic behaviour

The business world has produced many examples of psychopathic behaviour with owners using up employees savings, showing no regret or concern for these actions.
Psychopaths believe that they have been wronged and often harbor thoughts of revenge.
There is a need for recognition and a belief that they can out smart anyone.It's almost like a game e.g. the BTK serial killer, who sent photos & letters to the authorities.
Psychpaths are not unlike a chameleon, adapting to the role they need to take on in order to avoid being caught e.g. the BTK strangler who was an active church goer & cub scout leader.
Although in the Unites States 1% of the population meets the criteria for classification as a psychopath, the percentages for serial killer's is much lower.
The BTK, Wichita, Kansas case should highlight the fact that although a low phenomenon, people should be more vigilant and increase the security in their homes and cars.

Shannon Olson, aged 15 - Oct. 31, 1987: Shannon's nude body was discovered by a couple of fishermen, floating in a sand pit at 33rd and hillside on Nov 1st. Shannon's bra had been used to tie her hands behind her back.
Krista Martin, aged 20 - Oct. 2, 1989: Krista had been struck with a blunt instrument to the back of the head and was discovered, beaten to death at her apartmentat 506 E.

BTK killer fact: The Rader community moved from Tennessee in 1871 and BTK strangler is the great great grandson of Joseph Rader, one of the original Rader's.

William E. Rader, Dennis's father was the son of two Raders, Ruben Rader and Dorthea M. Rader. Dorthea was the daughter of Simeon Rader and Christine B. Kruse (later Rasmussen). Simeon was the son of Joseph Rader's and his first wife, Barbara Nease, who passed away prior to the family moving to Missouri..

Joseph and Barbara had 11 children, Sarah Catherine Rader Peters, Christene Rader Rader, Adam Frank Rader, Darius Rader, Regina 'Sis' Rader Wheeler, Simeon Rader, Maryan 'Polly Ann' Rader Popejoy, Philip Rader, Joseph Melanchton Rader and Pernina and Lavina Rader, who were twins.

Joseph and Andrew Rader are thought to be the heads of the original Rader family settlers. At the time of the red Rader book's printing in 1971, there were approx 4,000 names listed, all of whom are direct descendants of the original settlers.

When the Wichita Eagle newspaper offered to answer questions relating to letters, facts from the BTK killer, the heavens opened up. Some people had been following the case of the Wichita, Kansas BTK serial killer, Dennis L Rader for years.
Questions came from local residents and as far away as Canada.

Some of the questions emerging from the March 20 & March 28 question & answer session are as follows:

Could the BTK strangler, Dennis L Rader and the Zodiac killer be one ? Although there are similarities in the way letters & facts were sent by BTK and the Zodiac killer to the police and media, no connection has been announced. It is thought unlikely by law enforcement officials as Rader was stationed in Japan from early 1968 to August 1970. It is possible that the BTK killer admired the Zodiac killer's ability to avoid capture.
Has Rader sent letters from jail to any of the newspapers or TV stations, seeing as BTK enjoyed sending letters? None of the Wichita TV stations or the Wichita Eagle have received letters from the Wichita, Kansas serial killer aka BTK.
If BTK took pictures of his victims, how did he get those pictures developed? BTK used a Polaroid camera. There were 3 instant photos of Vicki Wegerle contained inside the letter sent to The Eagle in March 2004. Dennis used a Polaroid camera for his work as a Park City compliance officer.
Is it possible that Dennis Rader was involved in the murder of Phillip Fager and his two daughters in 1987? Wichita, Kansas police officials don't believe that BTK had anything to do with the murders but believe that Rader admired the work (extract from a purported letter sent from the BTK killer to Fager's widow) - a man was later tried but acquitted by a jury.

Lt. Ken Landwehr, was according to local lawyer and author Robert Beattie the target of a death threat from the BTK killer Wichita Kansas.
Robert Beattie who recently released a book "Nightmare in Wichita: The hunt for the BTK Strangler" states in his book that the Dennis Rader left the death threat in a package in a UPS drop box in the 200 block of North Kansas on 22 Oct 2004.

Rader was charged with 10 first degree murders in the Wichita area between 1974 and 1991 and is currently at the Sedgwick County jail.

The police chief from 1976 - 1978, Richard LaMunyon stated that the signature wasn't the only identifier involved in the BTK killer Wichita Kansas serial murders. Every communication received had a three way evaluation applied to it to differentiate it from the "copy cats" letters:

Roger Valadez, a previous suspect in the BTK serial killings wants genetic DNA, that had previously been taken from his mouth with a swab on December 01, 2004, destroyed..... His attorney seeks an answer as to why the Wichita police authorities took it in the first place.
A court hearing has been scheduled for April 1st. Dan Monnat, Valadez's attorney is to request that the DNA samples taken from his client are to be destroyed along with any computerized DNA information that the government holds relating to his client.

In one of the USA's biggest DNA sweeps a large number of individuals were tested... the number is thought to be around 1300. This had little if no impact in identifying the BTK killer Wichita Kansas.

The eventual breakthrough came from a slip up by the BTK killer Wichita Kansas himself. Dennis Rader sent a computer disk to a Wichita TV station... Wichita police tracked the disk to Dennis Rader's church.
Nola Foulston, District Attorney refused to comment on Valadez's request. However at a later news conference she reassured the public that of the 1300 or so DNA samples collected during the DNA sweep none would be kept on a database.
According to the laws of Kansas, evidence used in a criminal investigation can once the investigation is complete be destroyed or kept depending on the judges verdict.
In California, police will be able in 2008 to take DNA samples from anyone arrested for a felony, whether the person is convicted or not, under a law approved by voters in November.

In March 2004, BTK Wichita Kansas serial killer, Dennis Rader hit the headlines again when it was reported by the Wichita Eagle newspaper that a letter had been received by themselves from someone using the pseudonym Bill Thomas Killman.

The author of the letter claimed to have been responsible for murdering Vicki Wegerle on September 16, 1986. To endorse his claim, personal artifacts belonging to Vichy Wegerle were enclosed including a xerox of her driving license and photographs of the crime scene. The items were stolen at the time of the serial killing crime. This provided fairly conclusive proof that BTK Wichita Kansas was the guilty party.
On another occassion in December 2004, the Wichita Kansas police department received a further package, reportedly from from the BTK serial killer. The package was found in Murdock Park, Wichita... personal artifacts belonging to the murder victim Nancy Fox were included, including a drivers licese and other items which the Wichita police authorities haven't disclosed to the general public.

Even if later murders are linked to the BTK killer, it is unclear at this time whether the death penalty would come into play, as the Kansas Supreme Court declared the state's capital punishment law unconstitutional on December 17, 2004.

Dennis Lynn Rader has been named by police as the prime suspect in the BTK Wichita Kansas serial killings. He is a 59-year-old city inspector who lives in Park City, Wichita.

Born March 9, 1945 and one of four brothers.
Grew up in Wichita and graduated from Riverview School and later Wichita Heights High School. Rader first attended Wichita State University in 1964.
Spent 4 years as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force (1965 - 1969) including time in South Korea, Turkey, Greece and Okinawa
Attended Butler County Community College (El Dorado) and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina before returning to Wichita State in the fall of 1973. Graduated in 1979 with a major in Administration of Justice.
1970 to 1973, Rader worked as an assembler for the Coleman Company, a camping gear firm, as did two of the BTK early victims.
November 1974 to July 1988, BTK worked at a Wichita-based office of ADT Security Services (which saw increased business as a result of public fear of BTK). He held several positions that allowed him access to customers' homes, including installation manager.
Moved to Park City in 1976..
Rader worked since 1990 as a supervisor of the Compliance Department at Park City in charge of "animal control, housing problems, zoning, general permit enforcement and a variety of nuisance cases." In this position, neighbors recalled him as overzealous.

Dennis Rader was arrested on the morning of Saturday February 26, 2005 as a main suspect in the BTK Wichita Kansas serial murders. A devout church goer, cub scout leader and respected member of his church community who at 59 and president of his Christ Lutheran church council was suspected of the murders of at least 10 people in Wichita, Kansas, between 1974 and 1991.

January 15, 1974 was a terrible day in the life of 15 year old Charlie Otero. As he returned home from school on a chilly winter's day, the sight that met him could not have existed in his worst nightmares. His father Joseph, 38, mother Julie, 34, sister Josephine 11 and brother Charlie II, 9 had been strangled at the hands of a mass murderer. Investigators were stunned that four family members could have been killed during daylight hours in such a quiet neighborhood; the time of death according to the coroner was between 8am - 9am.
From the onset the police were reluctant to reveal details of the murders but did reveal that the killer had used a length of nylon cord, that he brought with him, to strangle his victims and that there were no signs of sexual assault to any of the family members.
