The emergence of BTK, the Wichita Kansas serial killer
January 15, 1974 was a terrible day in the life of 15 year old Charlie Otero. As he returned home from school on a chilly winter's day, the sight that met him could not have existed in his worst nightmares. His father Joseph, 38, mother Julie, 34, sister Josephine 11 and brother Charlie II, 9 had been strangled at the hands of a mass murderer. Investigators were stunned that four family members could have been killed during daylight hours in such a quiet neighborhood; the time of death according to the coroner was between 8am - 9am.

From the onset the police were reluctant to reveal details of the murders but did reveal that the killer had used a length of nylon cord, that he brought with him, to strangle his victims and that there were no signs of sexual assault to any of the family members. BTK, Wichita, Kansas had however left traces of semen around the house, including traces on some of his murder victims.

How did BTK Wichita Kansas avoid capture for so long?
As with many serial killers Dennis Rader was able to evade capture because of his ability to blend in and appear normal thus hiding his true nature, that of a sociopath, killer anf mass murderer. BTK was aided in his longevity by missed evidence, leads and oversights on behalf of the Wichita, Kansas crime authorities.
